More Than Football: Why Supporting Women in Sport Matters to Us

As the WAFLW season comes to an end, we’ve been reflecting on what a privilege it has been to stand alongside the women of Subiaco Football Club throughout the season. As a major sponsor of the Subiaco Women’s Program, we have had the opportunity to be part of more than just game days. We’ve watched the commitment, determination and resilience that goes into competing at this level, while also seeing first-hand the sense of community that exists around women’s football. For us, that is what sponsorship should be about. It is not simply about putting a logo on a jersey. It is about showing up, getting involved and supporting something we genuinely believe in.

At Contessi Properties, we believe strongly in creating opportunities for women, building confidence and celebrating achievement, both on and off the field. Football and real estate may seem like completely different worlds, but historically, neither has always been a space where women have had an equal seat at the table. That is one of the reasons supporting women’s sport feels so important to us. When we support a women’s team, we are supporting far more than the athletes we see playing each weekend. We are supporting young women who are developing confidence and leadership skills, the families and communities behind them, and the next generation who are growing up seeing women competing, leading and succeeding as completely normal.

A Personal Connection to the Cause

For Paulette, the connection is particularly personal. As a woman who has built a career and business in the traditionally male-dominated world of real estate, she understands the importance of having people around you who believe in what you are capable of. Building a business takes resilience, just as building a career does, and those same qualities are visible every time the Subiaco women step onto the field. The environments may be different, but the qualities that help women succeed are remarkably similar: determination, confidence, leadership, resilience and the willingness to keep going when things do not go according to plan.

That is why we are proud to support women who are willing to put themselves out there and chase something they believe in. Whether that is competing at a high level of football, building a business, progressing a career or taking a chance on something completely new, having the right people around you can make a meaningful difference. We know how powerful it can be when someone believes in you, encourages you and gives you the confidence to take the next step.

Community, Connection and Empowerment

One of the things we have loved most about being involved with the Subiaco Women’s Program has been the opportunity to connect with the wider community around the team. From game days through to Ladies Day, the season has created plenty of opportunities for people to come together, meet new people and celebrate the women who contribute to our communities in so many different ways.

Ladies Day was a perfect example of that. With its Denim & Diamonds theme, it brought together players, families, supporters, businesses and friends for an afternoon of football, food, music and conversation. But underneath all the fun was something much more meaningful: a celebration of women and the continued growth of women’s sport. Events like this create a space where conversations happen, relationships are formed and women can be recognised for what they contribute, whether that is on the football field, in business or within their communities.

It was also a great reminder that supporting women’s sport does not have to stop when the final siren sounds. The more people who show up, get involved and invest in these programs, the more opportunities we create for women to participate, develop and succeed.

Supporting Women Beyond the Football Field

Our commitment to women does not stop at sport. Every day at Contessi Properties, we work with women buying and selling property, building careers, running businesses, raising families and making some of the biggest financial decisions of their lives. We see women taking control of their futures and making bold decisions every day, and we are proud to play a small part in those journeys.

Empowerment can look different for everyone. Sometimes it is having someone believe in your next move. Sometimes it is having the confidence to take a risk, put yourself forward or step into a room where you may not have always felt you belonged. And sometimes it is simply knowing that there are people in your corner. That is why supporting women in sport and supporting women in business feel so closely connected to us. Both are about creating environments where women feel confident enough to step forward, have their voices heard and achieve what they are capable of.

Looking Back on the Season

As the final siren marks the end of the WAFLW season, we want to congratulate every player, coach, volunteer, family member and supporter who contributed to an incredible year for the Subiaco Women’s Program. We have been proud to watch the team compete, grow and represent the club with such commitment, and even prouder that Contessi Properties has been able to stand alongside them throughout the journey.

Being a sponsor is about much more than a logo on a sign or a name on a jersey. For us, it is about being part of the community and using our position to support the things that matter. Women’s sport matters. Women’s leadership matters. And creating more opportunities for women to succeed matters.

So as this season comes to a close, we are not saying goodbye. We are saying keep going. Keep pushing boundaries, keep backing each other and keep creating opportunities for the women who will follow. We are proud to have been part of this season and will continue to champion the women who are making their mark, both on and off the field.

Congratulations to the Subiaco Women’s Program on a fantastic season. We are proud to stand with you.
