If you want to improve your home but have put the idea on hold because of the increasing cost of living, we have a few examples of home improvements that don't cost a fortune.; and you don't have to go crazy at Bunnings or on Gumtree or eBay to make great changes that will lift your spirits.

Sometimes, owners become a little bored with how their home feels or frustrated at an area that's wasted or doesn't work. First-time owners often question their entire layout after living in their new home for a few months.

The lesson here is that little changes can make a big difference.

You don't need to knock down walls, rip and replace a kitchen, or even sell up to resolve your frustration.

Of course, there'll always be situations in which you want to sell.

Perhaps you need to upsize because the family is growing, or you've reached that time of life when it makes sense to downsize. But for those looking to make some smaller-scale changes, here are a few ideas.

New life to living spaces

Changing the furniture layout makes a huge difference. Consider how you can place the couch and chairs to encourage conversation. Try to avoid the TV being the focal point.

Add some colour

There's no need to break out the paint pots. Use throw rugs and colourful cushions to give your living room an additional lift.

Windows to the world

We tend to forget the importance of windows. Don't hide them behind thick fabric curtains. Work out how you might position seating to enjoy the view and the warmth of sunlight.

Cut the clutter

Reducing bric-a-brac will give your home a sense of additional light and space, making it easier to clean. Maximise your storage, and you'll be amazed at how your home will be transformed.

Embrace the natural touch

Indoor plants are back in fashion. A few green leaves work wonders in the bathroom and kitchen. Gen Z and Millenials love them, that's for sure.

Go kitchen crazy

There's probably no room that benefits more from a declutter than the kitchen. Throw out all the utensils, plates and cups you don't use. Rearrange your cupboards for maximum storage and take as many gadgets off the benchtop as possible.

Say it with lights

Improving your lighting, especially in the living room and kitchen, can change everything. A lamp with soft lighting is a lovely touch in the living area. Realigning your kitchen lights to target the benchtops can make food preparation a pleasure.
