Decorating our homes for the festive season is a highlight of the year for many of us, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for family and friends.
But finding the right Christmas tree and most suitable decorations can be challenging if you're in a small apartment or house.
It's a little deflating to buy the perfect tree but then get home to discover it's so big it takes over the living room.
In keeping with the Christmas spirit, our agents have pooled together their best tips for decorating a small living room while leaving enough space for your guests to have a wonderful time.
As an experienced agency in your area, we wish you a happy and safe Christmas and New Year. And if we can help you with your property needs going into 2023, please do not hesitate to call us.
Downsize the tree
The centrepiece of your Christmas decorations doesn't need to be 3m high and wide. Whether you go for a fake or real tree, focus on how you dress it.
Wall-size canvas
You can use removable hooks to dress your walls with decorations and even a sizable festive wreath, which might double as your Christmas tree if space is really at a premium.
Colour craft
An overdose of red and green can make your home feel smaller. So, follow the Scandinavian example by using white as your predominant colour with hints of red and green.
Look up
Garlands of tinsel and festive cut-outs can look amazing when hanging across the ceiling, ensuring a festive spirit even when all your guests crowd into your living room.
Food flow
When your dining table isn't big enough to cope, it's fun to serve drinks and desserts in other areas of your apartment or house. It also stops guests from staying in small groups and encourages them to mingle.
Table settings
If you're on dinner duty and have more guests than chairs, opt for informal seating, using benches or even ottomans. Avoid high-back chairs, as these divide a room, balcony or patio, leaving some guests having their backs to others.
Table decorations
Don't make the mistake of going to such extreme lengths of dressing the table with all things red and green that it crowds out the food. For a smaller festive commitment, try one or two small bowls of pot pourri, which will look and smell wonderful.
Keep flame burning
For additional atmosphere, tea lights and candles take up almost no room and will enhance the festive mood, especially if you're entertaining in the evening.
